Mining Biotechnology Exploration

  • Objective

The exploration project in Australia aims to disseminate, transfer and implement in Chile treatment systems for wastewater and solid wastes at mines when closing mining operations.

  • Description

Financed by INNOVA CHILE, the project seeks to learn about and acquire the scientific and technological capacities of the bioengineering systems used in Australian mining, for the passive treatment of its wastes. The project will also let the country’s mining companies learn about biotechnology systems with a dissemination methodology that guarantees the duplication of the technologies.

  • Expected Results

The main result will be to disseminate and actively promote among the country’s mining companies the use of clean and cost-efficient technologies for the treatment of wastes, in order to decrease their environmental impact. During the project’s execution strategic alliances with Australian companies and technological centers will be formalized for top level technical support. Finally, professionals from Fundación Chile’s technical team will be trained in the design, adaptation and application of bioengineering systems for the treatment and remediation of mining wastes.

  • Alliances
